Chief government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has described people against the closure of the University of Zambia (UNZA) and Copperbelt University (CBU) as “jokers”.
Reacting to Copperbelt University Academic Union (CBUAU) statement that the closure of CBU and UNZA is illegal, Kambwili said higher education minister Michael Kaingu has powers to close the country’s highest learning institutions.
Kambwili, who took the statement as a joke, said lecturers should be reasonable parents, adding that they should not support the riotous behavior by students.
And Kambwili has told students to show remorse if government has to re-open the two public universities.
Meanwhile, Kambwili has warned that government will not be threatened by utterances by some sections of society indicating that they will vote out the ruling party.
