Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema today fed dozens of street kids in Lusaka as a celebration of Christmas Day which falls on December 25.
Hichilema commonly referred as HH in a company of his Vice president in-charge of Politics Canisious Banda saved street kids food from outside Lusaka Main Post Office.
HH also took sometime to interact with the kids whom he says deserve a better life saying being in the street was not their choice.
Below is what HH said about the occasion:
We spent our Christmas having quality time with hundreds of our vulnerable children and groups in society who we shared a meal with at Lusaka Main Post office.
We believe these are our children that have been left homeless in the streets of the country and deserve a better tomorrow.
These are our fellow and lovely citizens who are not in the streets by choice but economic circumstances have forced them to be in that situation.
We believe giving them quality education, skills and job opportunities would be the best answer that will permanently offer them shelter.
Other than sharing the meal and clothes we have given them we also came to give them hope for a better life in future.
We requested them to be God fearing children and refrain from bad vices that makes society shun them.
We were accompanied by our party Vice-President Dr. Canisius Banda who also reminded them to always maintain peace and order in the country.
And surprisingly police came wanting to disrupt what we thought was a noble gesture of having a Christmas meal with these children.
We wondered when it became a crime to eat with others, especially the hungry and vulnerable children in the streets.
