HH welcomes Mulenga
Mulenga Sata is reportedly making desperate overtures to rejoin the Patriotic Front (PF), just seven months after dumping the ruling party for the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND).
This has come to light after the former Lusaka Province Minister was seen with President Edgar Lungu in South Africa. It is however not clear whether he is part of the President’s delegation.
In May, Sata shocked the country when he left the party founded by his father, the late Michael Sata, to join the UPND, a party led by his father’s erstwhile rival Hakainde Hichilema.
He was then adopted as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Kabwata but lost to the PF’s Given Lubinda, an outcome he challenged in the High Court.
But in a move widely seen as an attempt to get back into the good graces of his former party, the former Mayor of Lusaka abandoned his petition and started aiding Lubinda’s case.
Several PF sources have confirmed that Sata has been angling for a return to the party ever since it won the August 11 elections. It is however not clear whether the party will put him on hold for three years before readmitting him, as is the case with his fellow ‘prodigal son’son’ Miles Sampa.
