Perhaps unsurprisingly, the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has not attended the national prayers and fasting.
A check at Woodlands Forest Reserve, a venue for the National Prayers in Lusaka showed that no emissary from the opposition party has so far arrived to attend the national event.
The country is holding the National Prayers for the second year after President Edgar Lungu declared an annual prayer day that also doubles as a holiday.
On the Copperbelt the event will be commemorated at the Copperbelt University starting at 08:30 hours.
But UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma earlier said if senior UPND members are not seen at the venue where Lungu will be congregating for the prayers, they will be praying elsewhere with their pastors.
Kakoma had alleged that PF genuinely didn’t want UPND to be part of prayer as there is an earlier assumption that the ruling party had said other political parties such as the UPND would contaminate such national prayers.
