Zambia’s main opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema and his Deputy Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba have arrested in Luanshya.
Hichilema and Mwamba have since been detained after formally arrested for alleged seditious practices and unlawful assembly.
The duo who arrived at 11:00 hours were interogated for three hours.
Hichilema says the arrest is aimed at silence them over the alleged stolen election results by President Lungu.
“Just to let you know that after more 3 hours of so called interrogation at Luanshya Police station on the Copperbelt, we have been arrested and currently in detention for alleged seditious practices and unlawful assembly.
We knew it would come to this as a way to silence our voices and weaken our demands for justice to prevail over the stolen elections,” read a message from Hichilema posted on his Facebook page.
“But that will not stop our resolve for a free Zambia where people’s freedoms and liberties have to be reclaimed under a prosperous and united country.
We thank you all for your valued support and encouragement.
God bless our country.”
