United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema and his Vice President for Administration, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba today, October 5, 2016 appeared before the Luanshya Police.
Hichilema and Mwamba were summoned after they visited incarcerated party members and their families on the copperbelt.
And giving an update on the happenings in Luanshya, Hichilema said his entourage was initially denied entry into the Police station until his lawyers explained that the duo has been summoned by police.
“We have arrived at Luanshya Police station with GBM amidst tight and heavily armed state police. It was difficult for us to be allowed entry, until our legal team explained that we were summoned,” he said.
The duo were accompanied by Former Vice President Dr. Guy Scott , MMD factional leader Dr. Nevers Mumba and UPND sympathizers.
“We are accompanied by former Vice-President Dr. Guy Scott and former Vice-President and now MMD President Dr. Nevers Mumba, several UPND Members of Parliament, party officials and sympathisers,” Hichilema explained.
And when contacted for an update at 16:40 hours, the UPND Secretary General told Zambian Eye in a telephone interview that Hichilema and Mwamba are stil being interrogated by police from 10:00 hours.
The outcome of the interrogation was still unknown by press time.
