The Supreme Court has quashed High Court judge Eddie Sikazwe’s ruling that allowed Felix Mutati and others to hold a convention in Kabwe a couple of months ago.

And a panel of Supreme Court judges comprising justices Nigel Mutuna, Michael Musonda and Royda Kaoma have expressed shock at judge Sikazwe’s decision to dismiss the MMD case before him without a request for him to do so.

MMD national chairperson Winnie Zaloumis announced that the Supreme Court’s ‘decision’ at today’s hearing effectively restored Nevers Mumba as president of the former ruling party and all the other legitimate office holders.

She said Mutati therefore maintains his expelled status until the courts rule otherwise, adding that Rafael Nakacinda also remains suspended from engaging in any party activities.

The Mutati faction had another case thrown out by High Court Judge Gertrude Chawatama on July8, 2016 in which Rafael Nakacinda was challenging the adoption of Kawambwa aspiring candidate Elizabeth Chitika, Livingstone Central aspiring candidate Michael Kashinka and Mongu Central aspiring candidate Kamwendo Kamuti on the MMD ticket.
