maxwellPolice in Lusaka are looking for a Patriotic Front (PF) cadre Maxwell Chongu and his colleagues for allegedly shooting a UPND cadre Peter Mutwale on Friday.

Chongu, a former Big Brother Africa contestant, allegedly shot Mutwale, popularly known as Pablo, on Friday a few hours before the UPND presidential nominations.

Mutwale who was in company of his party cadres was allegedly shot in the leg by Chongo after the cadres of rival party’s met in Northmead along Great East Road.

Lusaka Province Deputy Police Commissioner Edwin Bwanga confirmed that investigations  into the shooting are underway.

“Yes, a report was lodged by a Mr Hamamba on behalf of Mutwale at central police on Friday evening that there was shooting in Northmead area and he even brought  a pistol which was confiscated. So we shall submit the fire arm to ballistic examination,” said Bwanga.

But UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka has expressed shock and dismay at the pace at which the case is moving. Katuka said it would be foolish for the police to fail to arrest Chongu, a well known PF cadre.

Meawhile, Mutwale who is receiving treatment at Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital claims he saw Max pointing a gun at him and fire at his leg.

“These people starting from Thursday, had plans to attack UPND members from Northemead as they proceed to Mulungushi for nominations. So me and my security guys had gone there to secure the place, so that our members can pass freely. When we arrived, we just heard gunshots. When people started running away , that’s when I saw Max pointing a gun directly at me.” Mutwale said in an interview from his hospital bed.
