President Edgar Lungu has said that he is a democrat and will leave power if he loses the August 11 elections.
Speaking at Kabundi -Kapinga United Church of Zambia (UCZ) in Chingola on the Copperbelt province on Sunday, President Lungu said he will happily go back to Chawama, his home township in the capital.
President Lungu said he will allow the opposition to campaign and run adverts in the media so that the country holds a free and fair elections. He committed to ensure that peace prevails as the country holds election.
He has urged supporters of his party – PF to restrain from violence even when provoked. He said God will be on his side to ensure that the country comes out of the election peaceful.
Speaking when he arrived from the Copperbelt this evening (Sunday), President Lungu called on political players to be tolerant and allow each other to campaign without intimidation.
President Lungu says politicians should only focus on selling their manifestos to electorates without any form of intimidation. He has further appealed to PF members to buy into his philosophy by calling for peace.
And President Lungu has rated the PF’s strength on Copperbelt at 85 percent compared to last year’s 75 percent.
He said this is owing to the economic strides that the PF government has made in the province and the country as a whole.
President Lungu’s plane touched down at City Airport at 19:10 hours.
Meanwhile ZNBC reports that earlier before departing for Lusaka at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, President Edgar Lungu urged PF members on the Copperbelt to ensure that they turn out in large numbers on August 11 to avoid a re-run.
President Lungu says a re-run will be costly to the country. He called on PF members in the province to get down to serious campaigns, especially at grassroots level.
