The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has said that no one will be allowed to enter any polling station with a Smart cellphone to avoid leaking unconfirmed results. The ban on cellphones includes polling officers.
The only mobile phones allowed will be 3310 by ECZ.
“They want to rig elections, they know the latest phones can take clear pictures, and emails can be send quickly. Twitting is a quicker way to communicate with the world. What you saw in Uganda, PF government wants to do the same, oppression and intimidation,” said Mwamba Payne Kapema a political commentator.
The Commission has said that election results will be sent to the totaling center electronically.
ECZ chairperson, Justice Esau Chulu said that the ECZ will not allow for the recounting of ballot papers at the totaling centre, adding that anybody who would be aggrieved with the outcome should seek a court petition.
