We’ll cause havoc for PF …until Edgar and his MMD friends leave power again – Dr Scott

WE will cause trouble for the PF until Edgar Lungu and his MMD are removed from power again, says Dr Guy Scott.

And Dr Scott says if the UPND forms government this year, Zambian politics will change as the socialist movement, led by Wynter Kabimba, will be the next force to reckon with.

Dr Scott, who together with Miles Sampa, Obvious Mwaliteta and Garry Nkombo on Sunday held a mammoth rally in Mazabuka, said he was on a mission to remove the MMD which has crept back into power under President Lungu’s watch.

“When you see that, then you should know what we are up to. PF knows what we are capable of doing. So we are on a mission to take away the PF members that we suffered with who have been replaced by MMD.

So we will cause  a lot of havoc and diarrhoea for the PF until Edgar is removed. Until the MMD that has crept back into power is removed again, because we saw that we were being eaten alive in PF by the MMD,” Dr Scott said.”We see UPND as this year’s winner in this election and we want the people who have been pushed out of PF to be part of that. I consider myself to have been pushed out of PF, being pushed out.”

He said President Lungu was feeling the pressure exerted by the PF breakaway group that was supporting UPND’s presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema.

“We were supposed to move to Kasama and hold a similar rally but after hearing that, Edgar has decided to go there. The indications are that they are getting diarrhoea because they know I am right. And I just like to say Edgar is being very decent about it, if you want me to say anything nice about him; he is not sending threatening messages to me, and I think in a way he misses me. I can confirm that we have shared a drink or two together at Tiger Woods and elsewhere, but we have to do what the Zambians need,” Dr Scott said.

“That multitude you saw in Mazabuka…if you were there, you would have seen how moving it was. I wondered where the people were coming from because you see the population of Mazabuka is small. I was looking for the truck and buses which brought that, they were not there and Garry Nkombo showed me that they made their own way there. It was not a ‘busing’ rally.”

He said the PF was ignoring the fact that people still considered him their vice-president and acting president.

“Some people came possibly to see me and wanted to hear what I wanted to say. Because they still consider me as their leader, I was their president and they are excited to see me. The question is, who is saying I am finished? Is it me or it is PF? Remember that the MMD didn’t know that it was finished when the PF was coming. They got a very big surprise.

If I am finished, why are they writing articles in the Daily Nation and government papers against Miles Sampa and myself? Why? Why are they changing Edgar’s programme so that he can go to Kasama and block us from going there? I can tell you that PF ayenda (is going).” Dr Scott said.

“If you ask me about the political situation now, I can tell you that it looks more certain that UPND will win the elections than we were that PF would win elections in 2011. Rupiah scared all of us with his branded bubble gums, lollipops and balloons. He threw in a lot of money and we thought we stood no chance, but the people showed him the way out.”

Asked what was in it for him supporting Hichilema, Dr Scott responded: “This is my country.

I am doing it for the country. I am a good organiser and I am well read, everything, from agriculture to wildlife to economics and I work hard. So this is not about Guy Scott.”

“If Edgar was doing sensible things in government I would have rested, I would be home not here talking to you. I am not happy with the way things are being done in this country. If I wanted, I would have easily taken a job from Edgar and kept quiet, but it would have been embarrassing to him now if I had to resign midway after accepting a job. Of course he gave me a job as commerce minister and while I was contemplating how to respond, he quickly offered the job to Margaret Mwanakatwe. I don’t regret that.”He said he would be remembered as a great mobiliser and the first white vice-president of Zambia.“Maybe they will remember me as a muzungu who caused them diarrhoea and trouble in this election, but I would rather like to leave a legacy that I contributed what I could to my country. I was the first muzungu vice-president and I worked tirelessly with Michael [Sata] to help the poor. I am proud of that,” Dr Scott said.Asked why he did not choose to support the Rainbow Party founded by his friend Kabimba, Dr Scott said he still cherished his relationship with the former justice minister.“I have not abandoned Wynter, we are still very good friends. I was talking to him just the other day. And if I do not agree with him ideologically, it does not mean that he is no longer my friend,” said Dr Scott.“In fact, I will be very happy this year if UPND wins the elections and we have the socialist movement led by Wynter arguing with the capitalist government of HH. That is what is likely to happen actually. It (Rainbow) can be the next force to reckon with, but it will be a capitalist government in power against a strong socialist movement. I have no problem with that.”
