Choma Milling Limited has reduced the retail price for a 25 kilogram bag of Mealie meal by four kwacha from 79 Kwacha to 75 Kwacha.
The reduction on the price follows Agriculture Minister, Given Lubinda’s ultimatum issued on Friday.
Mr. Lubinda issued the directive when he paid an impromptu visit to a Choma milling outlet in Mazabuka where he found a 25kg bag selling at K79.
He threatened that failure to reduce the price within two hours would lead to his ministry cancelling the contract awarded to the company for it to buy subsidised Maize from Food Reserve Agency.
