UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema says the appreciation of the Kwacha is temporal saying there is no economical measure that has been implemented for the gain.
Hichilema commonly referred to as HH says the short term strengthening of the Kwacha is due to foreign investors having to buy substantial levels of the currency to meet their annual tax obligations which are due now.
Nothing more, HH says.
The UPND leader observes:
Whilst the recent rally of the Kwacha has provided a rare moment of light within a dark period for Zambia’s economy, we know this to be a brief respite and should enjoy it whilst it lasts. It is lighting a fire with paper towels.
This is a brief artificial spike and further reinforces the entirely unstable and broken economy we are living through.
The only way to solve this inconsistency is through a strong and stable long term economic plan, based upon proven business experience, which acknowledges the challenges we face and commits to work with businesses to create a stable and attractive future for our country. Only then will our fires burn with coal.
