24 people have died in a fatal road traffic accident involving a Lusaka bound Wada Chovu bus which collided with a mini bus.
This happened today, Saturday, April 9, 2016 when the bus collided with an coming Mercedes Benz Minibus at a place called Manyumbi near Kabwe on the Great North Raod.
Both Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga and Road Transport and Safety Agency -RTSA- Senior Manager Fred Mubanga have confirmed the accident to ZNBC News.
Mr. Mubanga says preliminary investigations show that the Wada Chovu Bus was trying to avoid a stationed truck when it went into another lane and collided with an oncoming Mercedes Benz bus.
And Ms Munganga says the accident happened around 09 hrs.
She says the driver of the Wada Chovu Bus failed to keep to his lane in the process hit into the minibus which was coming from the opposite direction and that all the passengers who were in the minibus including the driver died on the spot.
The bodies are lying in Kabwe hospital mortuary awaiting identification and post-mortem.
A Mazhandu bus this morning also had a mishap in Kitwe-Ndola road though there were no casualties recorded.
Zambia has of late experienced road traffic accidents resulting in deaths. Last week seven people died in a Mazhandu bus traffic road accident between Kabwe and Kapiri Mposhi.
