It is clear that the Patriotic Front Government is stuck when it comes to improving the living standards of the citizens and the economy in general, the operation Young Vote (OYV) has charged.
OYV executive director guess Nyirenda says it is unfortunate and unacceptable that the energy and agriculture sectors which are supposed to be engines of the economy can be collapsed in such a matter by the PF regime.
He was commenting on the on-going maize and fuel shortages that have rocked the country in recent times.
He wondered whether leaders in the current PF Government leaders take time to reflect and plan on how to mitigate the current fuel and loadsheding crises.
Nyirenda regrets that the PF Government has employed threats and intimidation tactics on those that have divergent views from their inability and incopetence.
“It is unacceptable to have filling service stations with inadequate supply for the demand of the motorists in the capital city of the country. Why should Zambians be made to queue for 2 hours for fuel every day,” Nyirenda said in a statement made available to Zambian Eye.
“OYV is dismayed at the continuous loadsheding of the Central Business District (CBD) of Lusaka the capital city of the country. It is irresponsibility of the highest order to loadshed such an important area of the country and think that the country will improve in any direction. One wonders how and why such an area would have power switched off the whole morning and from 16:00 hours every-day. It is incredible that the CBD can be given power for less than 5 hours each day'” he added.
“As OYV, we expect better handling of the energy and agricultural sectors and nothing less.
“It is OYV’s considered view that if Zambia is to provide adequately to its citizens this lack of planning in the energy and agriculture sectors and generally putting the country on auto-pilot should immediately come to an end.”
