Jordan Massengo scored the equalising goal for Congo who managed to salvage a point in their Africa Cup of Nations, Group E match against Zambia which ended 1-1 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Wednesday.
Winston Kalengo opened the scoring for Zambia on the hour mark before Massengo levelled matters to see Congo stay on top of the qualifying group on goal difference.
Both Zambia and Congo have five points to their name after registering a win and draw each in their first two qualifying games. Congo, though, have a positive goal difference of two to Zambia’s one as their head-to-head match ended in a draw.
The two will lock horns again on 27 March at the Stade Alphonse Massamba Debat in Brazzaville where neither team can afford a loss.
Guinea Bissau are close on their heels after an Idrissa Camara goal handed them a 1-0 win over Kenya in the other Group E match at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau at the same time.
Guinea Bissau are in third place in the qualifying group with four points while Kenya are last with a point.
Kenya will host Guinea Bissau in their reverse fixture on 27 March at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
