Press briefing

Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema says the PF government has no money to raise letters of credit to the suppliers of fuel hence the shortages being experienced in the country.

Addressing hundreds of his Supporters at a media briefing where he received Defectors and endorsements, Hichilema commonly known as HH said the PF has depleted the treasury.

HH who is an economist explained that the fuel shortage the country is experiencing is also as a result of bad procurement arrangements by the government. He said there was alot of corruption involving the top leadership in the procurement of fuel.

The UPND leader said Zambians would suffer because President Lungu had no idea on how to tackle the challenges facing the country but was busy enjoying himself by traveling around.

President Lungu says the fuel shortage is due to some challenges in the procurement process.

Speaking before depature for Mozambique on Thursday, President Lungu said  the sluggish banking transactions have resulted in one of the fuel shipments being anchored in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for one week now.

President Lungu assured the nation that he will not tolerate such sluggishness in the procurement of fuel for too long.

Zambia is experiencing shortage of fuel starting from Tuesday this week. A check by Zambian Eye Friday evening found that many service stations in Lusaka had no fuel.
