Quick action by police officers prevented a group of mourners from lynching four men whom they suspected to have been behind the attack of Mrs Betty Sampa, aged 60 which happened on 29th February 2016 in Lusaka’s Woodlands area.

Mrs Sampa was admitted at the University Teaching Hospital where she was nursing her injuries until Monday, 14th March 2016 when she passed on.

The four were among St Joseph’s Catholic church choir members who had gone to console the mourners at Mrs Sampa’s funeral.

Mrs Sampa died after being attacked by six masked criminals, armed with knives and machetes who also chopped off her fingers. The suspects were identified by one of the mourners who alerted others. The mourners then mobilized themselves in order to descend on the suspects.

Fortunately one of them called the police who rushed to the scene. The incident happened on 15th February 2016 around 20:00 hours.

The suspects whose names have been withheld are currently in custody as investigations into the matter continue.
