President Edgar Lungu has challenged his political rivals to make public their policies on gender equality and women’s empowerment ahead of the August 11 general elections.
And the Head of State has maintained that his running mate in this year’s elections will be a woman.
He also reiterated his party’s position that 40% of elective positions will be reserved for women. He has since directed all PF structures at various levels to ensure that the policy is adhered to.
President Lungu was speaking when he officiated at this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations held at Showgrounds in Lusaka today.
Meanwhile, Zambians from all walks of life today joined the rest of the world in celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day.
This year’s commemoration was held under the theme Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it up for Gender Equality.
