Supporters of Zambia’s main opposition party – UPND this morning defied Police and escorted their Vice president for Administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba popularly known as GBM to Police.
Party president Hakainde Hichilema and his Vice president for Politics Canisus Banda and a team of lawyers accompanied GBM who by press time was still being interviewed.
“We have summoned Mr. Geoffrey Mwamba Bwalya in connection with the case involving the 21 suspected UPND cadres who were apprehended from his premises along Luanshya road on 28th February 2016.
What will be happening there are police investigations and not a political rally. Therefore only Mr Geoffrey Mwamba Bwalya, his legal representatives and a few family members will be allowed at the Police station,” the police stated in a press statement on Tuesday.
But dozens of UPND Supporters thronged Woodlands police station Wednesday morning. Armed Police Officers had to make a barrier from the entrance of Pick and Pay Shopping Mall to stop them from going to the police premises.
