Some thugs suspected to be supporters of the ruling Patriotic Front today ambushed the UPND entourage in Kapiri Mposhi.

According to a source, the thugs waylaid the UPND entourage this afternoon, Thursday, February 25 and threw stones at the vehicles.

“PF through its District chairman a Mr Kangwa and his District Treasurer a Mr Mwenya have paid these thugs to waylay UPND entourage, tried to block the road and threw stones at the moving vehicles. But this action was met with equal force from the Opposition supporters,” source.

A quick response by the police brought the situation under control. The Police has since continued keeping vigil of the situation.

UPND Vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba who was accompanied by former Lubasenshi Member of Parliament Patrick Mucheleka, and former MMD National Secretary Major Kachingwe held public meetings in Kapiri Mposhi before proceeding to the Copperbelt province.

And UPND Vice President for Administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has told the people of Kapiri Mposhi District who gathered at the UPND Secretariat that under Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership the UPND will pay great attention to the agriculture sector.

Mr. Mwamba, who is on a continued party mobilisation tour of Central Province, said currently the ruling Patriotic Front has failed to give clear direction on how it intends to increase food security in the country.

Speaking at the same event, former Lubasenshi Member of Parliament Patrick Mucheleka bemoaned the high price of mealie meal under the ruling PF.

Major Richard Kachingwe added that it is worrying to note that within a period of 4 years the PF has subjected the country to unprecedented levels of poverty.

He also reiterated that the UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has a clear vision on food security and requested the people of Kapiri Mposhi to vote for Mr. Hichilema and the UPND in the upcoming general elections.
