Government is spending $25 million to import power from Mozambique every month, Vice president Inonge Wina told Parliament today, Friday, February 19, 2016.
Vice president Wina disclosed this during question and answer time. She was responding to a question from Katuba UPND Member of Parliament Jonas Shikafuswa.
Ms Wina said the $25 million which she says is not budgeted is aimed at mitigating the impact of the current electricity deficit in the country.
The Vice President said since the funds were not budgeted for the Ministry of Finance has to mobilize resources which could have gone into other needy areas.
She explained that the problem is due to the impact of climate change which she said has been devastating on Zambia.
Ms Wina said the effects are evident as seen in low water levels in Kariba Dam.
