Kabanse ward councillor of Kawambwa district in Luapula Province, Collins Kabanda has bemoaned the delay to rehabilitate the Kawambwa – Chimpempe road.
Kabanda says the road has become almost impassable since the area received heavy rains end of September and in October adding that his area risks being cut off from the rest of the Boma when it starts raining continuously this rainy season.
Speaking in an interview with Zambia News and Information Services in Kawambwa, Kabanda said unless the road is rehabilitated before the onset of the rainy season, it will be difficult for the transporters to deliver inputs to the area.
He said it will be sad for the farmers to have their inputs marooned at the Boma as this will affect their farming hence the need to consider rehabilitating the road on time.
Kabanda said in 2013 some farmers had challenges collecting both basal and D. compound fertilizers at Kabanda Primary school where it was marooned because the trucks failed to reach Chimpempe area due to the bad state of the road.
However, Kabanda said he is hopeful that the government will look into the matter because it is a listening and hardworking in terms of infrastructure development.
He has implored the government to consider working on the road which he said is very important as it connects Northern Province through Mporokoso district.
