The opposition FDD farm support programme is meant to buy votes, Local government minister Stephen Kapyongo has charged.

FDD recently launched a farm support programme to help peasant farmers with fertiliser and seeds.

But Kapyongo today charged that the programme by FDD amount to what he called ‘political corruption’.

He says the programme is designed to buy votes ahead of the polls next year.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza dismissed Kapyongo’s claims saying the party is just doing what is contained on its manifesto to support farmers.

Mwanza said Kapyongo and his party – PF are free to copy the FDD programme and help the farmers.

The price for fertiliser has been hiked to K500 for a 25kg which far beyond the means of many farmers.
