Over 1,600 KCM Retrenched Workers protest

Retrenched Konckola Copper Mine Workers have protested blocking entry to the plant.

 

They are demanding to be paid K20,000 each by December 15, 2015. The workers have warned of severe consequences if KCM fails to pay them.

 

The Workers demanded to be addressed by Management. When management failed to come over to address them. They blocked the entrance to the plant.

 

The retrenched irate workers were only dispersed by riot police. They accused KCM and government of having failed to look at their plight.

 

Over 1,600 workers have been laid off by KCM following economic challenges such as low copper prices, and energy crisis being experienced in Zambia
