The first sitting of the 12th National Assembly will commence its business today. The Members of Parliament who emerged victorious in the August 11, general elections will take up their positions in the house.

The first session is coming with an increased number of MPs from the initial 150 in the previous 11th session to 156 in the current with the increase attributed to a delimination  exercise which was necessitated by the amendment of the constitution.

The Patriotic Front (PF) won the majority seats with 80, while their closest rivals the United Party for National Development (UPND) scooped 58 seats. The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) captured 4 seats and the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) have one seat, while 14 seats went to independent candidates.
