Presidential Spokesperson Amos Chanda says he is amazed at the levels of ignorance in the UPND.
Commenting on UPNDs letter to the Inspector General of Police to hold demonstrations prompting their leaders to take the Presidential Petition case to the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice, Mr Chanda wondered how UPND expects the two organs to deal with a Presidential Petition case when they do not have such mandates.
“It is shocking that we can experience such levels of ignorance at the highest level of the opposition UPND! The ICC deals with violence or acts that pass for “crimes against humanity (Namwala and Ndozo incidents perhaps)!” Mr Chanda clarified.
“As for ICJ it is UN Court with jurisdiction to receive disputes between and among states. What are these people up to?”
He said it was not surprising that the police were not taking the UPND application serious as it had no base.
“I am sure that is why the Police is not taking them seriously over their application,” said Chanda.
The UPND have written a letter to the Inspector General of Police requesting to have demonstrations to prompt their leaders Hakainde Hichilema and Geoffrey Mwamba to go to ICC and ICJ.
In a letter signed by party Secretary General Stephen Katuka and copied to UPND party President and the media, Mr Katuka said they had applied for permission on the 16th of September but had still not received a reply.
