Green Party losing Presidential Candidate Peter Sinkamba has challenged President-elect Edgar Lungu to surrender power to the Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini.
Sinkamba has urged Lungu to follow the provisions of the law following the petition that was filed in the Constitutional Court by the UPND on Friday, August 19, 2016.
And Sinkamba has expressed concern at statements coming from the Patriotic Front (PF) legal team to the effect that with or without the petition, Lungu must be sworn in next week Tuesday.
However, by Press time, there was a reversal in the decision to have inauguration ceremony.
Sinkamba told journalists in Lusaka that Lungu knows very well that he is supposed to hand over power to Matibini following the petition that was filed in by Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate Geoffrey Mwamba.
Sinkamba says Lungu on several occasions has assured the nation of respecting the law saying even now he must respect it.
He says it will be embarrassing for him if the court orders that he hands over power to the Speaker saying he should preserve his reputation by doing it now.
