Despite promising to announce the outcome of the national referendum that was held alongside the August 11 general elections on Monday, August 16, the Electoral Commission of Zambia is still hanging on to the results.
Stakeholders gathered on Monday at the Mulungushi International Conference Center only to be told by ECZ spokesperson Crispin Akufuna that the Commission only has results from 24 constituencies ready for announcing. The stakeholders flatly rejected the idea and demanded that all the results be released at once.
This prompted Akufuna to promise the stakeholders to pass on their concerns to the ECZ chairperson Justice Esau Chulu.
After more than an hour, Akufuna returned and told the stakeholders that the full result will be announced at “a date to be communicated later.”
