The Lusaka High Court has ordered ZNBC to air UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema’s political campaign documentary which the public broadcaster rejected.
The court has also ordered that the documentary whose title is ‘Hakainde Hichilema – The Man, The Vision, The Plan’ be aired before the close of election campaign period.
UPND, through its secretary general Steven Katuka, sought judicial review challenging ZNBC director general’s decision to reject the paid-for documentary.
This afternoon, judge Mwiinde Siavwapa granted UPND the application for judicial review and ordered ZNBC to broadcast the documentary.
“It is hereby ordered that leave to appy for judicial review be and is hereby granted. It is further ordered that the said leave shall operate as a stay of the respondent’s director general’s decision not to air the said documentary and that the said documentary shall be aired on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation before the close of the election campaign period,” read the order in part.
