Suspected patriotic Front (PF) cadres in Kasama last night ambushed attacked UPND presidential running mat Geoffrey Mwamba’s wife Chama and attempted to set her vehicle ablaze. The incident happened at a place called Kafukula, 55 Km from KasKasama central business district.
Mwamba, commonly known as GBM, confirmed the incident in a post on his Facebook page. He said his wife sustained an injury after one of the objects thrown by the cadres hit her in the face.
And the former Kasama Central MP has complained about the conduct of the police in the district whom he labelled as compromised. He said police fired gunshots when pursuing his party members and brutalised four of them before locking them up at Kasama police station.
Below is his full statement:
Good morning freinds.
I would normally be sharing a light moment with you, however, I am deeply disturbed by the attack on my wife , Chama, by PF thugs at a place called Kafukula, 55 Km from Kasama CBD.
My wife and her team in a Toyota VX were flagged down by people she presumed wanted UPND paraphinelia and material.
Despite them being clad in PF regalia and being a campaign period where watermelons are also in existance, they obliged and the group of drunken and unruly thugs besieged the vehicle she was in, asking for material.
A fight ensued amongst them and then all of a sudden the situation became nasty and some of them turned on the driver of the vehicle.
They began throwing all sorts of material to the car and one stone hit my wife in the face where she sustained an injury. My daughter, had to drive the vehicle from the scene as it became clear that they intended serious harm on her team, as others were coming from diffetent directions of the village some carrying logs on fire intending to burn the vehicle and the occupants.
They were only served by the arrival of another of our vehicles with a few of our youths that was also greeted by stones.
I am made to undetstand that 3 of our youths and an elderly man in his 70s have been detained at Kasama Police Station after being pursued by our compromised Police Force firing gunshots.
The police led by the Officer in Charge Kakompe have brutalised the occupants of our campaign truck and locked up the driver with a ridiculous charge of dangerous driving.
I shall update you, but we wont relent and the countdown is real for all you perpetrators of violence.
You will be kept updated and today we are holding a rally in Kasama at Buseko with President HH, Dr Nevers Mumba, Dr Guy Scott, Mr Miles Sampa and others.
