The United Party for National Development (UPND) says its leader Hakainde Hichilema has proved once again that he is ready to serve the Zambian people.
UPND secretary general Stephen Katuka says Hichilema’s strong performance on Thursday’s presidential debate hosted by Muvi TV showed that he is ready to deliver development through the party’s 10 Point Plan.
Katuka says the UPND 10 point plan, which is the party’s vision for a united, prosperous and equitable Zambia will be a reality that culminates into good quality jobs, lower prices, support for farmers and education for every child.
“His message was clear, he is ready to serve the Zambian people and fix the broken economy. Through delivery of the UPND 10 Point Plan our vision of a united, prosperous and equitable Zambia will become a reality. This means good quality jobs, lower food prices, support for farmers and every child in school,” Katuka said.
During the debate, Hichilema described the PF’s time in office as a failed experiment, which has cost the people dearly, saying: “Under President Lungu growth has been cut in half, thousands have lost jobs and food prices have skyrocketed. We cannot survive another 5 years of PF.”
He said it was a shame that Lungu had chosen to shun the debate, which was a great opportunity to debate policy and educate voters on the choice they face. Furthermore, he said there were many questions that the people are waiting for President Lungu to answer, such as why Zambia pays up to four or five times the amount South Africa pays for one kilometre of road, and why live ammunition was fired at unarmed UPND supporters on 8th July.
Hichilema directed his appeal to the people: “I am the only candidate with a 10 Point Plan to fix Zambia’s economy, education and employment – and I will deliver it by fighting corruption and cutting waste at State House. If your car breaks down you go to a mechanic, if your child is sick you go to a doctor and if your economy is broken then you go to an economist.”
