UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema has continued to poke his bitter rival, incumbent President and PF candidate Edgar Lungu for spurning his challenge to a live televised debate.
The opposition leader has on several occasions dared the President to a one-on-one but the later has made it clear, through his handlers, that he is not interested.
The country’s leading private TV station will tomorrow, August 3, host a live presidential debate and Hichilema is among those who have confirmed participation but Lungu is unlikely to pitch up
“President Lungu is once again running away from a debate. Given state interference in media and censorship this is the best chance we have of an open and transparent forum that explores how best to improve our nation for the benefit of our ppeopl,” Hichilema posted on his Facebook page.
With a little over a week to go before the polls, it remains to be seen whether President Lungu will finally pick up the gauntlet thrown by his biggest challenger.
