UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has condemned the violent attack on Republican Vice-President Inonge Wina’s Nalolo house by suspected UPND cadres.

The attack occurred yesterday when Hichilema was in the area to pay homage to Litunga Limboela in Moyo.

The irate cadres allegedly stormed Wina’s palace demanding to see her sister but found that she was not at home at the time.

They later pounced on her  grand children and other relatives beating them up and hitting one of them a with a block on his head.

The UPND has since called on the police to identify and arrest the perpetrators, adding that his party does not condone criminal acts by its supporters and those of other parties.

“On the alleged attack on Vice-President Inonge Wina’s family in Nalolo, we call on law enforcement agencies to fully investigate the incident and bring culprits to book. We don’t condone any acts of violence, whether by UPND or any cadres and we condemn the incidence in the strongest terms,” Hichilema said in a message posted on his official Facebook page.

“We have been victims of severe violence ourselves and we know how it hurts. A number of our people are currently in hospitals, with some having been transferred from Copperbelt to UTH in Lusaka because of the seriousness of their injuries.

“Even in Mongu some of our sympathisers were shot with live bullets by the police themselves , yet we had permits for all our meetings in the area.

“As we have said before, we must love one another and remain peaceful at all costs.

“We seek leadership to better the lives of our people through robust economic transformation.

“And this is only possible if we work together and commit ourselves to living in peace and harmony.”
