The United Party for National Development (UPND) appears to have backtracked on its earlier decision to not attend the national day of prayer organised by the church.

Speaking during a Radio Phoenix special program, UPND Vice President for political affairs Canisius Banda said the party will attend the day of prayer which will be held on July 24th, 2016.

“We are the children of God, we are pray and we can’t refuse to attend prayers. We shall be there,” Dr. Banda explained

However UPND party spokesperson Charles Kakoma is on record as having said the party will not participate in the national day of prayer because “it is a waste of time”.

Meanwhile, Dr. Banda has bemoaned the bad timing and lack of information regarding the referendum. Dr Banda said people in rural areas do not even understand what the constitution is.

“We feel the referendum must even not have been here. It’s a fraud, a ploy by those in government to win political mileage. Us in UPND understand how important the Bill of Rights. We must have never even had a referendum because it’s so important to mix it with General Elections,” he said during the live program.
